International Society for the Interdisciplinary Study of Symmetry A report to members. I am a founding member, long time Board member and one of only three or so attendees of every Congress. Those Congresses have been lifealtering for me. The Society publishes a print journal and a unique web journal. Here is their home page, and here the web journal. Unfortunately, one of the now former officers has decided to "take matters into his own hands" and secede from the Society, against the wishes of the Board and the voting membership. He, Gyorgy Darvas of Hungary, has taken the Society's funds and certain documents and established his own society under the same name. On the web you will find, for example, several pages -- including the original Society's web page -- where he advertises his agenda under the name of ISIS. Many members are unaware of what has transpired and continue to support Gyorgy Darvas. Or (as I have witnessed) he has misrepresented the facts to them. I post here two statements. One of these is a summary of emails from the Board and Gyorgy Darvas leading up to his revolt against the Board and theft of the treasury. Click here. The second document is my own testimony, notarized as a deposition and concerning the Congress of the Society in Sydney. This Congress -- as have ALL Congresses -- conducted a General Assembly of members to do business. Gyorgy Darvas has contested the outcome of this Assembly. Here is the statement about how it was conducted. Members should email me at tedg at alum.mit.edu for names of Board members, Officers (prior and current) and attending members to check on this. The original complete emails can be provided as well. Both of these can be mailed by post in sworn hardcopy. --Ted Goranson | |||||||||||||
